B. Bad's Bits

My life's experiences have led to the knowing, that I am here to awaken, and guide Black Femmes and Womxn to their individual Divine Purpose and Soul's Mission. By way of leading you back to yourself, to remember who and why you are. Grounded in lived lessons, transmuted trauma and transcribed truths; my evolving B. Bad Bits, are designed to aid in your journey of returning to self. If you are new to my B. Bad Bits, below is the perfect place for you to get started. However, before reading along, here are some Foundational Concepts, to ground you.

To begin the process of decolonizing our minds, I like to start by discussing the binary. Which is the foundational lens that we are taught to process all information through. That lens, is how we are trained to see the world, ourselves, and those around us; essentially, to police one another. The binary gives us this, Black/white, good/bad, either/or, scope to live within. In a society, where all that is associated with Black, is bad, wrong, immoral, dirty, dumb and the list goes on.

While in contrast, white, is associated with being good, holy, godly, superior, pure, just and right. In Age, Race, Class and Sex: Women Redefining Difference, from 'Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches.' Audre Lorde notes:

'much of Western European history conditions us to see human differences in simplistic opposition to each other: dominant/subordinate, good/bad, up/down, superior/inferior. In a society where the good is defined in terms of profit rather than in terms of human need, there must always be some group of people who, through systematized oppression, can be made to feel surplus, to occupy the place of the dehumanized inferior. Within this society, that group is made up of Black, third world people, working-class people, older people and women.'

While seemingly invisible, this matrix is all around us. Utilizing the systems of White Supremacist Capitalist Patriarchy, to not only oppress; but to strategically form anda inform, the lens we perceive the world, ourselves and others through as illustrated through [Figure 1] below. Altering the way we are able to see and love our Blackness. Skewing our relationship with capital and inflating the role it plays in our lives. While also grooming us from the time we’re born, for the servitude and pleasure of men.

[Please note that there are many more programs in place to unlearn, and unplug from. These are only some of the root programs that I work to de-root through my B. Bad Bits.]

This matrix is enforced by the images, rhetoric and propaganda constantly shown to us. Through mediums such as: television, movies, media, social media, the news, literature, entertainment and celebrity, as illustrated in [Figure 2]. Reinforced through echo chambers, that affirm the specific types of images and messaging that we consume on a daily basis. Again, strategically forming and informing, the lens we see the world and perceive ourselves through. In sisters of the yam: black women and self-recovery, bell hooks wrote:

'Long before racial integration fundamentally changed the nature of those communities, disrupting black folks' ability to be self-affirming, they sent into our all-black world a powerful tool that would teach us to internalize racism, that would teach us all a manner of ways to be unloving toward ourselves, that tool was television. Learning to identify with the screen images of good and bad, whether looking at Westerns or Tarzan movies, television was bringing into the homes of black people a message that we were inferior, a race doomed to serve and die so that white people could live well.'

You may also notice, these programs crumble around us in 2020 and beyond, marking the perfect point in time for us to decolonize our minds. If it resonates, it's time for us to unpack, unlearn, de-root and liberate ourselves from this matrix. Breaking free from these archaic programs, that have dictated how Black Femmes and Womxn are ‘supposed’ to show up and exist. It's time for us to both individually and collectively remember who we are, and step into why we are here.

I believe that we were all sent here with our own Divine Purpose and Soul's Mission. With purpose meaning why we are here, and mission meaning what we are here to do. Therefore, I believe that within you, is where all of the answers and resources you need are. To assist you in this journey, below are the elements of my intentionally crafted and evolving B. SEPARATING SELF + SOCIETY

Focuses on getting to the root of understanding how the matrix, and all of these societal structures alike stand in the way of us knowing who we really are. So that we are then able to recognize the broader scope of what is at play, to separate ourselves from society.

RADICAL SELF UNDERSTANDING

Here, the focus is on our understanding of self. Given that since we are constantly learning and growing, who we are, is ever evolving and shifting, as we become closer in alignment with our true selves.

RADICAL SELF ACCEPTANCE

Here, I took a critical look at our perception of self, where that stems from, if there’s any truth to it, and how it resonates in our lives. To then face those ugly truths about ourselves, that aren’t baseless. To bring us to a space where we are able to see and accept ourselves, fully.

STEPPING INTO SELF
